Tsunamis generated in the Puerto Rico trench would be mostly blocked by Cuba and the Yucatán Peninsula

Survey looks at potential for tsunamis in the Gulf

GALVESTON — Researchers have identified five areas in the Gulf of Mexico where the potential exists for landslide-induced tsunamis capable of producing walls of water 13 feet high along the northern Gulf Coast.

Tsunamis generated in the Puerto Rico trench would be mostly blocked by Cuba and the Yucatán Peninsula, ten Brink said.
