After a 10-year local market hiatus, England’s premier airline, British Airways (BA), resumed service from San Juan to London’s Gatwick Airport on Monday.
Some 250 passengers board the inaugural flight BA2156 at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) on Monday afternoon.

The new route, offering two weekly flights on Boeing 777 aircraft, is part of island government efforts led by the Economic Development & Commerce Department to increase Puerto Rico’s airlift to its core markets in the mainland U.S., Europe and Latin America

Incentives totaling $1 million from the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. were part of the appeal to British Airways.
