Univision Hires Political Operatives to Frame Its Message

THE SHARK TANK
By Javier Manjarres
May 30, 2012
The Spanish language television network UniVision is making no effort to hide their bias in support of amnesty for illegal immigrants or their disdain towards Republicans- those great big racist meanies.

You may recall last year that Univision’s recently hired “progressive” president Isaac Lee was fully support of a hit piece his network ran against U.S. Senator Marco Rubio that highlighted a family member’s past drug arrest and incarceration that occurred when Rubio was a teenager.

The likely reason for the network’s “guerra contra Rubio” was because Rubio turned down an interview by Jorge Ramos, the anchor and host of the Sunday morning show Al Punto. Rubio and others beleive that Ramos is a leftist with his own political agenda. My own interactions with Ramos have been very amicable and he has treated me with the utmost respect.

Here is what we first reported on this issue in 2011-
Actually, there is a rumor circulating in media circles that Cesar Conde, Univision’s President, has his sights set on a career in politics and has no qualms about taking Rubio down a notch or two in order to puff up his own political profile. (This cause quite a fuss behind closed doors)

The folks at Univision and their Democrat sympathizers are trying their hardest to frame Rubio as being ‘anti-hispanic’, their cuddly way of telling their audience that Rubio is really a self-loathing Senator with an identity crisis. As Rubio’s national profile continues to grow in stature, he can expect more of this type of nonsense- the left and their media acolytes are desperate to take the shine off Rubio’s star knowing full well that he has the ability to effectively communicate the truth about the Democrat agenda to Hispanics in a way that returns the Democrat Party to permanent minority status in this country.

Even though Rubio has made himself available to Univision’s affiliate TV stations in the past, and with the amount of media requests his office receives everyday, Rubio will never be able to entertain all of them. But after Univision’s little hit piece, I’m guessing Rubio probably won’t be returning Univision’s calls anytime soon- I don’t come off no banana boat, ok?- (Shark Tank-Univison Puts a Hit On Senator ‘Scarface’ Rubio)

As a result of Univision’s actions, Rubio has decided to only entertain interviews and from Univision’s rival Telemundo. But with Univision’s left-leaning political agenda fully on display, is it too much of a stretch to believe that the television network has hired top political consultants to help “frame” their message?

Two sources within Univision’s inner circle have divulged to the Shark Tank that this in fact true- Univision has actually hired political operatives to help frame their political agenda. While nearly all major TV networks employ “political contributors” as regular guests on their various programs, the agenda and narratives of Univision’s contributors has not been closely examined. It appears that Univision isn’t concerned about reporting hard news to its viewership so much as it is about pushing and advocating a leftist agenda. Has the network compromised whatever journalistic integrity it had left to begin with?

Etan Patz Suspect Arrested, Ending 33 Year Cold Case of Missing Boy

Etan Patz Case: Pedro Hernandez Arrested

By RICHARD ESPOSITO and RUSSELL GOLDMAN (@GoldmanRussell)
May 24, 2012

Police today arrested a former grocery worker in the 1979 murder of Etan Patz, ending a mystery of what happened to the 6-year-old boy that has haunted New York City for three decades.

Pedro Hernandez, 51, confessed to police that he lured Patz to his death with the promise of a soda. He took police back to the basement of a Manhattan boedga and showed them where he strangled Patz.

He said he stuffed by boy's body into a plastic garbage bag, carried it to another location in the SOHO neighborhood and dumped it in the trash.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Hernandez provided no motive for the killing.

Patz, a handsome blond boy, vanished on the frisk day he was allowed to walk to the school bus alone on May 25, 1979. Friday is the 33rd anniversary of his death.

Kelly said detectives were drawn to Hernandez in recent days because Hernandez had told family members and friends as early as 1981 that he had "done a bad thing and killed a child in New York."

It was one of those family members or friends who alerted police following renewed interest in the case when police excavated the basement apartment of a building on the same block last month where Patz lived and Hernandez worked.

Kelly said police had informed Patz's parents, who have for years wondered just what happened to their 6-year-old son.

"We only hope these developments bring some measure of peace to the family," Kelly said.

Patz who disappeared on a rainy New York Day not unlike the one on which Hernandezs was arrested, launched the modern missing persons movement and led to missing children being featured on milk cartons.

Hernandez was taken into custody at his residence in Maple Shade, N.J., on Wednesday morning where he lives with his wife and daughter. The apartment is rented by his wife Rosemary Hernandez, who let her husband move in after he told her that he was dying of cancer.

New York City police officers accompanied by local cops took him into custody at his New Jersey home at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and brought him to the Camden County, N.J., Prosecutor's Office for initial questioning. He was then taken to New York City for additional questioning by authorities there.

Though police have named other suspects in the past none had ever been arrested or charged.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg declined to provide details today, but said, "A person of interest is in custody and being questioned."

"The suspect came forward and made a statement implicating himself. I caution you all that there's a lot more investigating to do," the mayor said.

Referring to Patz's family, Bloomberg said he hopes that "we are one step closer to providing them some measure of relief."

This morning, NYPD Chief of Detectives Phil Pulaski walked along Prince Street, where Patz vanished. Pulaski and his team were reexamining the crime scene in light of new information they have obtained from questioning Hernandez.

The police commissioner is expected to hold a news conference later today. Neither Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, nor the FBI would comment on the investigation.

The search for Etan has been one of the largest, longest lasting and most heart wrenching hunts for a missing child in the country's recent history. His photo was among the first of a missing child to appear on a milk carton.

JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR: TAX EVASION, PERJURY?

By: Devvy
April 23, 2012
NewsWithViews.com

Back in early July 2009, political prostitutes on the Senate Judiciary Committee began confirmation hearings for a politically correct socialist, Sonia Sotomayor, to the U.S. Supreme Court. Having the correct female parts and ethnicity (Hispanic), she was a shoe-in regardless of how unqualified for the job. At that time, Dr. Richard Cordero contacted me. Dr. Cordero is an attorney who practices law in New York and was not only very familiar with Sotomayor, his research proves little Sonia concealed her assets and is guilty of tax evasion and perjury. I immediately began reading his evidence; it took a couple of days. Not speculation, but hundreds of pages of documents.

Dr. Richard Cordero who is a doctor of law with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in England; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan; and a law degree from La Sorbonne in Paris finds perplexing; his own words in an email to me:

"This puzzles me greatly, particularly since each of the three acts of wrongdoing that I discussed bears corroboration by either: (1) The Committee's questionnaire; (2) Judge Sotomayor's answers to it and her conduct; (3) The docket of the DeLano case, 06-4780-bk, CA2; and (4) statistics of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts on the denial by the 2nd Circuit Judicial Council, of which Judge Sotomayor is a member, of 100% of petitions for review of dismissed judicial misconduct complaints during the 1 Oct 96 - 30 Sep 08 - 12-year period.

Student loan debt has become the latest financial crisis in America

I signed a petition to the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and President Barack Obama, which says:
"Total outstanding student loan debt in America is expected to exceed $1 TRILLION this year. Millions of hardworking, taxpaying, educated Americans are being crushed under the weight of their educational debts, while the economy continues to sputter. Support a REAL economic stimulus and jobs plan. Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170)."

Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012

By Robert Applebaum (Contact)
To be delivered to: Rep. John Kline (MN-2), The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama
Total outstanding student loan debt in America is expected to exceed $1 TRILLION this year. Millions of hardworking, taxpaying, educated Americans are being crushed under the weight of their educational debts, while the economy continues to sputter. Support a REAL economic stimulus and jobs plan. Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170).

Since 1980, average tuition for a 4-year college education has increased an astounding 827%. Since 1999, average student loan debt has increased by a shameful 511%. In 2010, total outstanding student loan debt exceeded total outstanding credit card debt in America for the first time ever. In 2012, total outstanding student loan debt is expected to exceed $1 Trillion.

In short, student loan debt has become the latest financial crisis in America and, if we do absolutely nothing, the entire economy will eventually come crashing down again, just as it did when the housing bubble popped. Reasonable minds can disagree as to the solutions, they cannot, however, disagree on the existence of this ever-growing crisis, as well as the unsustainable course we're on towards financial oblivion.

As a result of more than 30 years of treating higher education as an individual commodity, rather than a public good and an investment in our collective future, those buried under the weight of their student loan debt are not buying homes or cars, not starting businesses or families, and they're not investing, inventing, innovating or otherwise engaged in any of the economically stimulative activities that we need all Americans to be engaged in if we're ever to dig ourselves out of the giant hole created by the greed of those at the very top.

Now for the good news: there's finally hope on the horizon! Representative Hansen Clarke of Michigan has just introduced H.R. 4170, the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012, in the House of Representatives - legislation designed to lend a helping hand to those struggling under massive amounts of student loan debt.

For a brief summary of H.R. 4170's main provisions, please copy & paste this URL into your browser: http://tinyurl.com/7akydbk

Student loan debt has an undeniable and significant suppressive effect on economic growth. The Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 directly addresses this enormous boot on the neck of the middle class and represents a glimmer of hope for millions of Americans who, with each passing day, find that the American Dream is more and more out of reach.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully request that Congress bring H.R. 4170, the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012, up for consideration and commit to holding a straight, up-or-down vote on it this year. Thereafter, we, the undersigned, respectfully request that President Obama sign this legislation into law.

Michigan governor signs motorcycle helmet repeal - Washington Times

Michigan governor signs motorcycle helmet repeal - Washington Times:
Michigan helmet laws are reviewed. (The Washington Times)
Michigan helmet laws are reviewed.
(The Washington Times)

Despite safety and cost arguments from the insurance industry and the medical community, Michigan’s Republican Gov. Rick Snyder announced Friday that he had signed into law a repeal of the state’s mandatory motorcycle helmet law.

His nod for repeal comes as welcome news to bikers around the state, many of whom have lobbied the Michigan Statehouse for three decades for the freedom to make their own decisions on helmet protections. Michigan becomes the 31st state in the nation to have an option on helmet use.

“Motorcycle accidents are a very small percentage of accidents overall,” said Vince Consiglio, president of the motorcycle safety and advocacy group ABATE. “Data from other states demonstrates that states that remove mandatory helmet laws do not see an increase in insurance premiums, and states that institute helmet laws do not see a corresponding decrease in insurance rates.”

NBC probes selective editing of Zimmerman 911 tape

by: Erica Ritz
Saturday, March 31, 2012

NBC has revealed that it is launching an internal investigation into the “editing process” surrounding the conversation between George Zimmerman and a police dispatcher (shortly before Trayvon Martin was shot), where Zimmerman appears to volunteer racial information.

Exposed by Fox News and Newsbusters, NBC played the conversation on the “Today Show” as: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

The unabridged version is:
Zimmerman:This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher:OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman:He looks black.

VIDEO VINDICATES ZIMMERMAN

NEW HIGH DEF POLICE VIDEO OF ZIMMERMAN APPEARS DAMNING OF ABC REPORT

by: Dan Riehl

New high def video vindicates Zimmerman's story
HGeorge Zimmerman  Photo Credit:AP

ABC News boldly proclaimed police surveillance video of George Zimmerman being taken into the Sanford police station the night Trayvon Martin was killed showed no blood or bruises from an alleged physical encounter Zimmerman claimed to have had with 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

A new High Definition clip from the same video appears to make clear that Zimmerman had a gash or wound of some kind on the back of his head. That would be totally consistent with his version of events on the night in question and opposite the impression ABC News gave its viewers.
Big Journalism called the ABC video-based report reckless and revealing of nothing after it first aired. ABC's presumed ability to enhance and review video before airing only makes their report all the more outrageous. Given analysis by Breitbart Media and the Daily Caller already performed, the ABC video appeared to be inconclusive, at best.
The new High Defintion clip from the police video Breitbart TV is releasing [see below] means that any determination beyond that the video is inconclusive is shoddy, if not intentionally unethical, journalism. To date, ABC has offered no official response to the broad and convincing criticism of the disingenuous nature of their aired report.

JetBlue wants Puerto Rico, Austin flights from D.C.

By Seth Wenig, AP
JetBlue unveiled its proposal for long-distance flights from Washington Reagan this afternoon, saying it would like to offer "capital-to-capital" service from D.C.'s capacity-controlled close-in airport to both Austin, Texas, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

JetBlue's proposed new flights would be the only nonstop service between the U.S. capital's preferred business airport and the capitals of Puerto Rico and Texas – both of which are located beyond the airport's 1,250-mile perimeter and are among the 10 largest markets without nonstop air service to Reagan National.

Fears Iran Is Helping Al Qaeda Plot Atrocity

SKY NEWS
Sam Kiley, defence and security editor
2:43pm UK, Wednesday February 15, 2012
Iran and al Qaeda's core leadership under Ayman al Zawahiri have established an "operational relationship" amid fears the terror group is planning a spectacular attack against the West.

There are concerns such an attack, possibly targeting Europe, would be in revenge for the killing ofOsama bin Laden by the US last year. Sky News' intelligence sources have said Iran has been supplying al Qaeda with training in the use of advanced explosives, "some funding and a safe haven" as part of a deal first worked out in 2009 which has now led to "operational capacity".

Although some Western intelligence agencies remain sceptical about an “alliance” between Iran and al Qaeda, the United States has become so concerned about the close relationship that late last year it issued a $10m (£6.4m) reward for information leading to the whereabouts of a Syrian al Qaeda leader in Iran, Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil, better known as Yasin al Suri. The reward offered for al Suri, 30, puts him on the same level as Mullah Omar, the leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Only al Zawahiri, who replaced bin Laden, has a higher price, $25m (£16m), on his head.

According to Sky sources, Iran has reacted to the publication of al Suri's name by taking him into "protective custody". "If someone got hold of him, he would have the most incredible amount of intelligence and so it makes sense to make sure that he is protected," said a source. But al Suri has been swiftly replaced - a sign, Sky intelligence sources say, that the al Qaeda relationship with Iran is of great mutual importance.

Police and Royal Marines take part in a security exercise for the Olympics

The new al Qaeda leader in Iran, effectively the most important figure outside the core leadership based in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan, is Muhsin al Fadhli. The al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan is worried it is losing its grip on the movement's "franchise". Al Zawahiri is believed to be planning a "classic" al Qaeda attack, simultaneously on multiple locations, which would confirm the mantle he has assumed as the leader of the global jihad.

A source said: "Iran is the main route through which funding for the organisations is made, the main route for operatives to travel to Pakistan for training, and it is the only real way by which al Zawahiri can control and order a major attack." The sources have no specific intelligence on what the al Qaeda target is, nor when it might be launched.

"We do know that an operation is under way. We assess that the most likely target is to be European. And the most obvious target in Europe for an attack that would attract a lot of attention would be the Olympic Games," a source said, stressing that this was only an "assessment" and not based on any specific intelligence.

The newly-appointed al Qaeda leader in Iran was accused of providing funding to its operations in Iraq. A Kuwaiti citizen, he fought in Chechnya and Afghanistan. His deputy, Adel Radi Saker al Wahabi al Harbi, a Saudi, also served under al Suri and is on Saudi Arabia's "most wanted" list of alleged terrorists.

Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces in Pakistan last May

A secret intelligence memo, seen by Sky News, said: "Against the background of intensive co-operation over recent months between Iran and al Qaeda - with a view to conducting a joint attack against Western targets overseas… Iran has significantly stepped up its investment, maintenance and improvement of operational and intelligence ties with the al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan in recent months.

"Al Harbi (the al Qaeda number two in Iran) is considered an extremely dangerous field operative; he has fought in the Afghanistan and Pakistan theatres." Iran's nuclear programme has been under covert attack for the last few years. At least five nuclear scientists have been killed, or maimed, in hit-and-run shootings and bombings which Iran has blamed on Israel.

In addition, its efforts to develop a long-range missile and refine uranium to a weapons grade have been hit by 'accidents' and the Stuxnet computer virus, which temporarily crippled its uranium centrifuges. This week Israel blamed Iran's client organisation, the Lebanese militant group Hizbollah, for two bomb attacks against Israeli targets - one in New Delhi wounded an Israeli diplomat.

Iran denied involvement in the New Delhi attack

Iran has denied any links to al Qaeda, and to the recent attacks on Israelis. The intelligence sources said that Iran wanted to extend its global reach with al Qaeda "most likely to be used in revenge for any military strikes against Iran's nuclear capacities. Iran wants to be able to say 'We can hit you back'".

Israel, which would face an existential threat from a nuclear Iran, has been debating the merits and dangers of an attack on Iran. It would face a bombardment of hundreds of thousands of rockets from Hizbollah in Lebanon and Gaza, and directly from Iran in retaliation for an attack on Tehran's nuclear programme, Israeli experts have warned. "Iran wants to widen that response to a global threat against Western targets, probably as a deterrent to any strikes by the West against its nuclear facilities," a Sky source said.

"The danger is that Iran and al Qaeda may be keen to show this capacity ahead of any attacks on Iran - as a kind of warning." Although Iran, as a Shia theocracy, would not be a natural bedfellow of the Sunni al Qaeda network, there is a precedent for Iranian support for Sunni terrorist groups.

Hamas, in Gaza, has received significant funds and weapons from Iran via Syria. And in Iraq allied troops were targeted by both Sunni and Shia militants with bombs developed with expertise from Iran and Tehran's proxy, the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

Obama announces new housing refinance plan

By Zachary A. Goldfarb and David Nakamura,
Wednesday, February 1,

President Obama on Wednesday rolled out new proposals aimed at helping troubled homeowners, including a plan that would allow more borrowers to take advantage of record-low interest rates and lower their monthly mortgage payments.

Up to 3.5 million people who do not currently have federally backed loans might be eligible for the program, administration officials said. Another 11 million people who currently hold government-backed loans from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac also could potentially benefit.

The renewed efforts, which the president announced late morning at the James Lee Community Center in Falls Church, were foreshadowed during Obama’s State of the Union address last week. They mark another of a series of initiatives aimed at lifting the nation’s ailing housing market as consensus is growing rapidly that the housing woes are holding back the economic recovery.

ANALYSIS: When will housing bounce back?
“It triggered the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes,” Obama said of the housing bubble that burst four years ago. “And it has been the single biggest drag on our recovery from a terrible recession. Crushing debt has kept millions of consumers from spending. A lack of building demand has kept hundreds of thousands of construction workers idle. The challenge is massive in size and scope.”

A central piece of the president’s plan would allow qualified homeowners to refinance their mortgages at current historically low interest rates. Unlike earlier proposals, the new refinance measure would cover not only home loans guaranteed by federal mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but also those owned by private investors, according to senior administration officials. The cost of undertaking those refinancings, Obama said last week, would be paid for by a fee on large financial firms to ensure “it won’t add to the deficit and will give those banks that were rescued by the taxpayers a chance to repay a deficit of trust.”

US Citizenship May be Revoked If This Bill Passes..

Losing American Citizenship has been the subject of many heated and legal discussions in the status and self determination debate in Puerto Rico. A bill has been introduced to allow the Feds to revoke US Citizenship.

Bad timing Sen Lieberman!  I'm sure President Obama and others will not appreciate the political consequences. MJ
Sen Joe Lieberman

THE WESTERN CENTER FOR JOURNALISM

Senate Bill Authorizes Feds To Revoke Citizenship Of Americans
JANUARY 16, 2012 - By DOUG BOOK
A bill has been introduced in the United States Senate which will authorize the federal government to revoke the citizenship, creating practical expatriates, of American citizens.

Introduced by Connecticut Independent Joe Lieberman and Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown, S 1698, the “Enemy Expatriation Act,” is a simple, 2 page document which offers apparently innocent amendments and additions to existing federal legislation. (1)

That legislation, known as Title 8, “…outlines the role of aliens and nationality in the U.S. Code.” And it is just one small piece of this massive and complex law which the Enemy Expatriation Act seeks to modify, that being Section 349, the means by which “a person who is a national of the United States whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality…,” that is, his citizenship. (2)

Though there is currently little contained in Section 349 which would alarm any American citizen, one phrase added to the legislation by the “Enemy Expatriation Act” would change everything. For it states that anyone voluntarily “engaging in, or purposefully and materially supporting, hostilities against the United States” will lose his “nationality.” And nationality means citizenship! (1)

To be sure, most of us would be in favor of revoking American citizenship if it has been improperly, perhaps surreptitiously attained by Muslim terrorists who have entered the United States only to commit acts of violence and murder.

But it’s necessary to remember who we are dealing with in Washington, DC. To Janet and her Department of Homeland Security, it is Libertarians, soldiers returning from combat, gun owners, militia members, devout believers in the Constitution and those who loudly mistrust and criticize the federal government who are the true threats of “engaging in hostilities against the United States.” Perhaps not coincidentally it is also members of these groups who are the most vocal critics of the Obama Administration!

And as the Obama Regime considers each of these individuals a potential domestic terrorist, how long will it be until a member of one of these “highly suspect” groups is conveniently accused of “materially supporting hostilities against the United States?”

Much of this language should sound quite familiar, for it is taken directly from the recently enacted National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. There was great concern surrounding the authority given the President by this law to imprison American citizens without trial or charge if he should consider them enemies who present a danger to the United States and its people. And, just as the President is granted that authority by the , should the Enemy Expatriation Act pass both the House and Senate, he will ALSO have the authority to revoke their citizenship. (3)

Isn’t it odd that, no so long ago, the left was adamant about GRANTING to Muslim terrorists in Guantanamo the rights of American citizens—rights to a lawyer, Miranda rights of silence, and the right to a speedy trial before a jury! Yet with the signing into law of senate bill 1698, those same rights, indeed American citizenship itself, could be revoked from any one of “We the people!”

The election is only months away. Regardless who wins it, the “legal” destruction of our natural rights as citizens of the United States by Barack Hussein Obama or any other president must NOT be permitted.

The CARICOM Blueprint for Illicit Drug Trafficking

This analysis was prepared by Melissa Beale, Research Associate for the Council on Hemispheric Affairs
December 28, 2011
  • Drug trafficking and related violence is on the rise throughout the Caribbean at a time that the region is being heavily influenced by organized Latin American criminal groups.
  • U.S./Mexico border controls have been profoundly tightened, resulting in a growing spillover of drugs into the wider Caribbean.
  • The Caribbean’s natural landscapes and diffuse geographical locations make it appealing for drug traffickers who take advantage of such terrain that features long often uncontrolled coastlines and mountainous interiors for the growth and transportation of narcotics.
  • The role of the U.S. has increased with the creation of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, targeted on helping to combat the growing menace of the drug trafficking phenomenon.
  • Drug traffickers target vulnerable CARICOM islands such as Haiti to earn big profits by corrupting high officials.
.............................
U.S./Caribbean Tactics
Presently, there is a lot of speculation about Puerto Rico becoming a narco-state with the increase in the illicit flow of drugs. Officials have noted that “75 percent of the [year’s] murders are drug-related.”[6] According to a report by CBS news, “Drug smuggling is as much a part of Puerto Rico as palm trees and sand – American sand.”[7] The main reason for this is that “For drug traffickers…once they get to Puerto Rico, no more customs checkpoints on the way to the mainland.”[8]

This is also the case for other U.S. Caribbean territories such as the U.S. Virgin Islands, which needs to be examined by U.S. authorities. Greater emphasis, therefore, needs to be made in when it comes to U.S.’ tactics to combat drug trafficking in their Caribbean territories – Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands come to mind since “domestic commercial cargo shipments between these U.S. territories and the continental U.S. ordinarily are not subject to US Customs inspection”.[9]  Additionally, these U.S. territories, which are often less rigorously controlled and monitored by officials, become popular ocean drop-off points for Latin American cocaine shipment that have been previously airdropped on other eastern Caribbean islands such as St Martin and St Kitts.

Tennessee tourist arrested for bringing pistol into 9/11 Memorial

Graves

December 29, 2011

Really, you can’t bring guns into the 9/11 Memorial?
A tourist from TN waltzed into one of the most secure sites in the city, and politely asked a cop if she could check her weapon. Instead, she was dragged out in cuffs. Now, Meredith Graves, 39, is facing at least three years in prison for thinking New York’s gun laws are anything like those in the Bible Belt. Graves, a fourth-year medical student, showed up at the memorial on Dec. 22 to pay her respects during a trip north for a job interview.

She didn’t realize that the loaded .32-caliber pistol in her purse would be a problem until she saw a sign at the site that read, “No guns allowed,” sources said. “She remembered she had the gun on her,” a source said. She walked up to a security guard and said, “I have this gun. Where can I check it?”

The guard told her that she was in luck because of “law enforcement day” — and led her to another area. When she got to that section, she asked another cop, “We have this gun — can we check it in here? We [my husband and I] are not law-enforcement.” That’s when she was arrested.

Graves, who has a full legal carry permit in Tennessee, was locked up on a weapons-possession charge and held on $2,000 bond that she posted yesterday. She is due in court on March 19. She’ll soon find out exactly how serious New York City is about illegal guns. The Manhattan DA’s Office is pursuing a conviction on felony gun possession — carrying a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years.

Mayor Bloomberg, with the help of the five district attorneys, has crusaded against the flow of illegal guns, especially from the South.
Out-of-state weapons have been used in a slew of homicides, including the murder of NYPD cop Peter Figoski on Dec. 12. Sources don’t believe Graves’ intentions were sinister. She and her husband, Richard Disharoon, drove to New York because Graves, a registered nurse, had an interview for a residency at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital on Long Island, sources said. “You’d think states would reciprocate with the Second Amendment. She has a license to carry in Tennessee,” said her mother-in-law, who lives in Manchester, NJ.

“Everyone down there carries, and she just forgot,” said the woman, who would not give her name. “She was being honest, and this is the treatment they give innocent people.” Graves, who has no prior criminal record, could not be reached for comment, and her Legal Aid lawyer did not return calls.

The case resembles the ordeal of Jonathan Ryan, a Florida man who was arrested for gun possession in 2010 after driving up north to help his girlfriend move — and ended up beating the rap at trial. Ryan’s lawyer, Mark Bederow, said yesterday New York’s gun laws are too tough on people like Graves and his client. “There may be technical guilt in some of these cases, but the law is not designed to deal with them,” he said. Meanwhile, a loaded .38-caliber handgun was discovered Tuesday on the ground near the metal detectors at the memorial, sources said.

US. selling arms to Iraq despite fears

BAGHDAD – The Obama administration is moving ahead with the sale of nearly $11 billion worth of arms and training for the Iraqi military despite concerns that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is moving to consolidate authority, create a one-party Shiite-dominated state and abandon the U.S.-backed power-sharing government.

The military aid, including advanced fighter jets and battle tanks, is meant to help the Iraqi government protect its borders and rebuild a military that before the 1991 Persian Gulf war was one of the largest in the world; it was disbanded in 2003 after the U.S. invasion. But the sales of the weapons – some of which have already been delivered – are moving ahead even though al-Maliki has failed to carry out an agreement that would have limited his ability to marginalize the Sunnis and turn the military into a sectarian force.

The Most Dangerous Bill in Congress: SOPA

Vision to America

by V2A

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help you.” When you hear these words, run for the hills and take your possessions with you. When the government steps into to fix a problem where there is no problem, you can bet that the new law will be used by some to do things that it was never intended to do.

SOPA (Stop Online Privacy Act), also known as H.R. 3261, could end free speech on the internet, all in the name of protecting us from the nebulously defined on-line piracy problem. Sounds like a noble idea until you realize that if passed, a new government enforcement agency will be established, funded by tax dollars, and filled with government bureaucrats who will have to justify their existence by investigating complaints from every malcontent trolling the internet with a copyright claim.
The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice [headed by the friend of the Black Panthers, Eric ‘Fast and Furious’ Holder], as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for 10 pieces of music or movies within six months. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.
This piece of legislation would destroy the internet. Website owners would reluctant to post content because for fear that someone will claim copyright infringement.

American Citizens on U.S. Soil May be Indefinitely Detained, Sent to Guantanamo or Assassinated

U.S. Says Americans Are MILITARY Targets in the War on Terror … And Says that Only the White House – and Not the Courts – Gets to Decide Who Is a Legitimate Target

American Citizens on U.S. Soil May be Indefinitely Detained, Sent to Guantanamo or Assassinated

As everyone realizes by now, Congress’ push for indefinite detention includes American citizens on American soil. As Huffington post notes:
The debate also has left many Americans scratching their heads as to whether Congress is actually attempting to authorize the indefinite detention of Americans by the military without charges. But proponents — led by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee — say that is exactly what the war on terror requires. They argued that the bill simply codifies precedents set by the Supreme Court and removes uncertainty, which they said would better protect the country.
